Science That Inspires Fiction
In Comet Surfer, imagination meets research. Every city, spacecraft, and ethical dilemma is inspired by real principles of physics, engineering, systems thinking, and philosophy. This page invites readers to explore the scientific and human foundations behind the story.
Comet Surfer is a transmedia project that combines literature, science, technology, and human exploration. The official novel website can be found at:

About the Author — Ricardo Silva
From an early age, Ricardo was an insatiable reader, particularly fascinated by science fiction. That passion remains with him to this day. There is almost always a book nearby — alongside the countless scientific papers, academic publications, and technical documents he reads, writes, or reviews as part of his professional life.
Storytelling also began early.
As a child, his cousins became his first audience, listening to adventures brought to life among the trees, swings, and winding paths of his grandparents’ backyard, where anything could transform into a pirate ship or a spacecraft bound for distant worlds.
That same narrative instinct eventually followed him into the classroom, where he built a career as a university educator. Translating complex concepts into accessible metaphors became one of his favorite ways to teach science with meaning, clarity, and emotional resonance.
For Ricardo, reading has never been merely a professional tool, but a way of living. He often describes literature as both an emotional and intellectual compass — an essential component in building believable worlds, even when those worlds involve distant planets, artificial intelligence, or future technologies.
At home, stories have also been part of family life. Together with his wife, he raised three professional children, encouraging in them curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.
As the old proverb says, “A fulfilled life requires planting a tree, having a child, and writing a book.” But Ricardo believes the true challenge lies in watching that tree grow, raising those children with love, and finding someone willing to read that book.
He has planted trees and watched them flourish. He has accompanied the growth of three remarkable children. Now, he begins a new chapter as a science fiction author, hoping that Comet Surfer will ignite the imagination of readers willing to follow him beyond the rings of Mars and along the trajectory of a comet named Nadeah.
